California Forensic Institute, Inc., doing business as CFI Forensics (“CFI,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through cfiforensics.com (the “Site”), how we use and share it, and the choices available to you. It applies only to the Site — not to services CFI provides directly to law enforcement agencies or employers outside of this website.

1. Information We Collect

a. Information you provide directly. The Site includes a contact form (hosted via Google Forms) where you may voluntarily submit information such as your name, email address, phone number, and the contents of your message. Please avoid including sensitive information (e.g., Social Security numbers, medical or psychological records, or financial account details) in this form.

b. Information collected automatically. Like most websites, the Site may automatically collect certain technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages viewed, and referring pages. This data may be collected directly or through cookies and similar tracking technologies, including those embedded in the WordPress plugins, SEO tools, or other third-party software used to operate the Site (for example, analytics or performance-monitoring plugins). We do not currently maintain a complete list of every plugin-level tracking technology in use; if you add or confirm specific tools (such as Google Analytics or Meta/Facebook Pixel), this policy should be updated to name them specifically.

c. Information from embedded third-party content. The Site embeds podcast content from Buzzsprout and video/social content from YouTube and Facebook. These providers may set their own cookies or collect data when you interact with their embedded players or links, governed by their own privacy policies.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to:

  • Respond to inquiries submitted through the contact form;
  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Site;
  • Understand how visitors use the Site (to the extent analytics tools are active);
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect the rights, property, and safety of CFI, our clients, and others.

We do not use information submitted through the Site for automated decision-making related to employment screening, background checks, or fitness-for-duty evaluations. Those services, when provided, are delivered directly to client organizations under separate agreements — not through this website.

3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device that help websites function and collect usage data. The Site may use cookies for basic functionality and, depending on active plugins, for analytics purposes. You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting them; doing so may affect some Site functionality. The Site does not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals.

4. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share information with:

  • Service providers who help us operate the Site (e.g., web hosting, form processing, SEO/analytics plugin vendors), who are only permitted to use it to provide services to us;
  • Legal authorities, if required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of CFI or others;
  • A successor entity, in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to standard confidentiality expectations.

5. Data Retention

We retain contact form submissions for as long as reasonably necessary to respond to your inquiry and for legitimate business or legal record-keeping purposes, after which we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

6. Your Privacy Choices and Rights

California residents: Depending on the volume and nature of our data processing, you may have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know what personal information we have collected, request deletion or correction of it, and be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise a privacy right, contact us using the details in Section 9.

All visitors: You may decline to submit information through the contact form, and you may control cookies through your browser. If you would like previously submitted information deleted, contact us and we will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request, subject to legal or record-keeping obligations.

7. Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information through the Site, please contact us so we can delete it.

8. Health-Related Content

Some Site content (videos, podcasts) discusses PTSD, stress, and mental health among first responders. Any health-related information you choose to share with us — for example, through the contact form — is provided voluntarily, and this Site is not a HIPAA-covered platform for the transmission of protected health information. Please do not use the contact form to send confidential medical or psychological records.
